GranMonte Durif 2019

Unique in Thailand and only found at GranMonte, Durif is eastern-France-originated. It is also known as Petite Sirah in the USA. The variety showed great potential in our experimental vineyard after the first planting in 2005. We have then expended into three sizable blocks of Durif. We are proud to be the first grower and only producer of Durif in Thailand. Hand-harvested at optimum ripeness in the mild February at 23°Brix to avoid over ripeness, for juicy flavours and natural acidity. Fermented in stainless steel and malolactic fermentation was done in second year French oak puncheons and aged for 12 months to soften the bold tannins, a distinctive characteristic of this grape variety. The wine is layered with lively and lifted fruit aromas on the nose. On the palate, the wine reveals juicy plum character, blackcurrant, liquorice and black pepper nuance. It is youthful wine with vibrant acidity, soft tannins and long lingering finish of mocha and chocolate oak undertone.
